Principal Ballinger

Mrs. Ballinger joined the New Albany-Plain Local School District in 2018 in the role of Assistant Principal and was selected to lead the Intermediate School as Building Principal in 2022. 

Mrs. Ballinger is a leader who is passionate about building strong relationships with students, staff and the community to create an engaging culture of academic achievement and growth for all students. 

Mrs. Ballinger currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators (OAESA), representing upper elementary administrators as the Middle Level Representative. She also serves on the Credential Review Board, a state-level advisory board established by the Ohio State Board of Education. 

Prior to her tenure in New Albany, Mrs. Ballinger served in administrative roles at the middle and high school levels in the Columbus City School District, including the role of interim middle school principal.  As a teacher, Mrs. Ballinger taught English Language Arts, served as an instructional coach, and was a presenter at multiple National Council of Teachers of English conferences.

Mrs. Ballinger received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Ohio Wesleyan University and her Master of Arts degree in Educational Administration from The Ohio State University. Mrs. Ballinger and her husband, Andrew, have one son, Henry.}

 

Ryan Grashel

Mr. Ryan Grashel returns to the New Albany Middle School Learning Community as Dean of Students in summer of 2022 after serving as Dean of Students in New Albany High School in 2021. Mr. Grashel began his career in New Albany at the middle school in 2020.   

Mr. Grashel is beginning his 13th year in education and his second year as middle school dean of students.  Before arriving in New Albany, Ryan served as the Credit Recovery Coordinator for Groveport Madison High School in Groveport, Ohio.  Mr. Grashel also served as a classroom  teacher in algebra 1, world history and reading for the first 6 years of his career.

Mr. Grashel holds a Master of Education Degree from the University of Dayton and a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Science from The Ohio State University. He lives in New Albany with his wife, Brooke and two daughters, Emma (4) and Olivia (2) and Charlie (0). Mr. Grashel also serves as our head boys basketball coach at New Albany High School.


Hannah Macko

Dr. Hannah Macko joined New Albany Intermediate School as Assistant Principal in August 2026. Dr. Macko is an instructional leader who is passionate about creating a school culture centered on kindness, dignity, and respect. She is deeply committed to building strong, supportive relationships with students, staff, and families while ensuring the school meets both the academic and developmental needs of every student.

Dr. Macko joined the school district in 2014 as a Spanish teacher, serving students at New Albany Middle School and New Albany High School. During her ten years in the classroom, she also served as World Language Department Chair and Building an Inclusive Campus Culture facilitator.

Most recently, Dr. Macko served as the Dean of Students at New Albany Middle School. In this role, she coordinated academic and behavioral interventions, student discipline, student attendance, and facilitated professional development on instructional strategies for English Language Learners and practices to promote student engagement. She has played an active role in district initiatives focused on belonging, kindness, and mental health.

Dr. Macko attended The Ohio State University, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Spanish and her Master’s degree in World Language Education, and was a student-athlete on the women’s rowing team. She earned her Ph.D. in School Leadership from Concordia University Chicago. Dr. Macko resides in Dublin with her wife, Kristin, and daughter, Monroe.
